Call of Duty: Black Ops II First Look preview
It is a period of "first times" for me: last Saturday I made my first trade show-event (as Firstlook), I stood for the first time with my mug both in front and behind the camera, and on the basis of my first attended press presentation now I write my first hands-on preview. And perhaps one of the titles of this year: Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
After Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 3 is the this year the turn of Treyarch to with Black Ops II the honours of the popular Call of Duty franchise. Daniel and I were given an extensive presentation during as Firstlook followed by a multiplayersessie of about an hour. In this hands-on preview you will find out what we have seen.
In a small room with capacity for up to twelve press members appeared Jay Puryear, Director of brand development at Treyarch, enters the scene. In a presentation of a sloppy three minutes we were at length catch up on the single player, multiplayer, all improvements over the first Black Ops and we got an "Undead" valve. About the amount of information we have been given to process I would fill a book, but given the limited write space will I try to limit myself to the essence.
Single Player
The single player has two different story lines that are in two different time zones. The first storyline is set during the cold war in the 1970s and 1980s and sees protagonist Alex Mason, who we still know from predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops, return. This period is also marked by the emergence of Raul Menendez, the antagonist of the game. In the second storyline set in futuristic 2025 fulfills David Mason (indeed, the son of) the lead role. Meanwhile a new cold war broken out, this time, however, between the United States and new world power China. Villain Menendez tries through planned evil peculiarities to firing, and so the two world powers further against each other. Black Ops 2 Hacks for free can be downloaded here.
New in the single player are the so-called Strike Force-missions. These missions diving during the campaign on and are used in a non-linear character. In the Strike Force-missions the player gets control of different vehicles, on the ground or in the air, but also robots. The success or failure of a Strike Force-mission has a direct influence on the further course of the story. A character that dies during such a mission in the rest of the campaign, for example, will not return. In addition, the outcome of the Strike Force-missions affects the behavior of antagonist Menendez. The course of these missions can so a total different ending of the story.
Climbing and flying; the gadgets of the future
In the video clip that we got to see, were directly a pair of futuristic gadgets that every soldier must have anno 2025, introduced. We saw soldiers in the rain, using a kind of nano-gloves, rock walls climbing (Spiderman, anyone?), then as flying squirrels, gliding through the air to eventually after a landing in the jungle, with snappy weaponry to deal with the opposition. Through a special visor proved it possible to cloaked troops where to take and just before the end of the clip was still here to see that the player also the vanishing trick mastered. What I especially noticed was that the game during the movie, despite the now antique engine, very good graphics for the day came. Although it was not mentioned, I suspect, however, that the images were from a high end PC and that the console version any better than, for example, will see Modern Warfare 3.
Multiplayer
Hoewell Treyarch and Infinity Ward the Hollywood-style single player into an art form, the age duration of Call of Duty: Black Ops II of course stand or fall by the quality of the multiplayer. Also here is some changes from predecessor Black Ops.
The multiplayer has 55 levels and there is up to ten times the option of a prestige run. The difference with previous Call of Duty-share, however, is that all your unlocks and achievements are preserved when you decide to go again leveling. Which is just as useful, because the game has hundreds of different individual challenges in multiplayer you not likely within one run completes.
